Some posts will never get traffic.  You can tweet them, optimize the keywords or promote them in forums but for some reasons people are not interested.  These posts are the opposite of the one hit wonder.  And sometimes it is impossible to tell why a post doesn’t move.

The key thing to remember is that even if few people want to read a post the lack of interest doesn’t mean it is bad.  It just means that the post is not popular, which is different.  I have posts that are read by very few people, however some of these posts receive the most insightful comments when compared to other posts that were more popular

In addition it is important to remember the 80-20 Rule, which is that 80% of your use will come from 20% of your items.  Part of the reason why the 20% is valuable is that you have the other 80%.  The other 80% provides a if I want more mentality.  In the case of economics, where 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers, the other 80% are the ones that make it popular.  The rule has been proven to be relevant in libraries, restaurants, land distribution and sales.

Unpopular posts are unavoidable, and cannot be predicted.  And part of the value of the popular posts is having the unpopular posts.  Remember one of the important parts of being indexed highly in Yahoo or Google is how often your website gets new content.  Therefore even if a post gets no traffic just having it crawled by Google and Yahoo will tell the search engines that your website is still active.  The big lesson here is to keep writing and remember that all content adds value to your blog even if you don’t see it in the number of page views.
