On November 6th I displayed and sold my jewelry at the Bloomington Handmade Market at the Bloomington Convention center in Bloomington Indiana. It was a good day with good sales, and I met good people and had a fun time. Afterwards I was pretty worn out although it was completely worth it. The market estimated they had over 1500 visitors!
I can tell that the recession is not completely over. I did sell more medium range items, which are pieces ranging from $55 to $80, and I sold a few lower cost items, pieces ranging from $17 to $55, but I did not a single big item. The Bloomington market was worth it was worth my time, but with no big ticket items sold my gross sales were not as high as I would have liked. I plan to feature pieces in the $55 range for the next few months.
Another exciting part of the fair was that I was able to sit next to Sarah Fisher of Purple Hippo. Not only is Sarah a crafter like me, she is in the same grad school program I am. She is a master of radicle cross stitch with a product that seems to sell itself. Sarah and her boyfriend were a great help to me during the fair because every time I needed to leave for a few minutes they would just jump in. I wish them luck on their Etsy page and their upcoming art fair in Ohio.
